You Are Not Your Past

Some days, it’s easy to feel like your whole identity is wrapped up in what you’ve done—or what’s been done to you. Maybe you regret a hookup, how far things went with someone, or choices you made when you felt lonely, pressured, or scared. Maybe you’re carrying the memory of a pregnancy scare, an abortion, or an STD diagnosis and quietly wondering, “Is this who I am now?”

You are not your past.

Your value doesn’t rise and fall based on one night, one season, or one decision. You were created in the image and likeness of God. That means you are deeply loved, intentionally designed, and worth fighting for, even on the days you don’t feel that way.

Your past is part of your story, but it isn’t the ending.

It’s okay to be honest about the things you wish you could change. It’s okay to feel sadness, anger, or disappointment when you look back. Those feelings are real. But they don’t mean you’re permanently stuck. Regret can be the starting point of healing, not the final word over your life.

You are allowed to grow.

You are allowed to set new boundaries. You are allowed to say, “I want better for myself,” even if you didn’t always choose that in the past. You can choose different people to let close. You can choose to learn, to heal, and to invite God into the places that still feel raw.

You are stronger than you think.

Healing doesn’t mean pretending the hard things never happened. Healing means you can look at them and say, “This hurt me, but it doesn’t own me anymore. I am loved. I am valuable. My life still has purpose.”

At Options for Women – River Falls, we believe every person who walks through our doors is more than their past. Whether you’re processing a pregnancy scare, an abortion experience, an STD worry, or a difficult relationship, you deserve a safe place to talk, cry, ask questions, and be reminded of who you truly are.

You don’t have to carry this alone.

Our team is here to listen without judgment, share honest information, and walk with you as you consider your next steps. You are not a problem to fix. You are a person with a future worth protecting and a heart worth caring for.

Your past may explain how you got here, but it doesn’t get to decide where you go next.
